In progress
In the Netherlands, 500,000 households live below the low-income threshold. 8% of Dutch households struggle with problematic debt, and 1 in 5 households worry about their finances.
In the ELSA lab, a broad coalition of organizations works together to ensure that AI and technology applied in the domain of poverty and debt is ethically, legally, and societally responsible.
What are we doing?
Within the ELSA lab, we are involved in multiple projects, all contributing to the same goal: preventing and reducing poverty and debt in the Netherlands. At BISS, we investigate:
- How data can be used to improve early detection of problematic debt;
- Whether a realistic VR experience of poverty and debt can enhance empathy among policymakers;
- How to unite academia, industry, the public sector, and citizens in the fight against poverty and debt.
